To get the most out of your visit, you’ll find all of the information you need here. You can pre-book at any time by clicking on the BOOK icon at the top of the page.
We know that many national restrictions have been lifted, but like many indoor attractions and museums across the country, we want vulnerable people and those awaiting vaccination to feel safe and welcome for their visit. We also need to consider the safety of our team, who meet hundreds of visitors face-to-face every day.
Social distancing – please try to remain 1 metre from others.
All our visitor feedback suggests that allowing more space between visitors makes your visit a more pleasant experience, particularly during our busy periods.
Face coverings – our staff will continue to wear face coverings unless exempt, and we strongly encourage you to wear a face covering throughout your visit.
Pre-booking – to help us minimise face-to-face interactions at our admissions desk and to reduce queueing, pre-booking your visit is strongly recommended. Standby places may be available if a time slot has space.
Many thanks for your cooperation and consideration as we endeavour to keep JORVIK safe and enjoyable for all our visitors and staff.
Visit our Safety and Social Distancing page for more details.

We strongly recommend that you pre-book your tickets to JORVIK.
We ask that you arrive on time for your visit. The time you have booked is the time we will start admitting visitors for that slot. In busy times, it may take up to 20 minutes to admit everyone who has booked that slot. Due to our controls on visitor capacity, we are not able to admit visitors who are late, but we may be able to move your visit to another time if there are spaces available.
If you are not able to visit the attraction for your pre-booked slot we can re-book your visit for a more convenient time. We are not able to offer refunds. You may find answers to your questions relating to our closure here.

Bags & Suitcases
At JORVIK Viking Centre we are fully aware of our responsibilities as a visitor attraction. In line with advice from our security advisors, additional security measures are in place across our building. We kindly ask that patrons refrain from bringing any large bags or suitcases to the venue as there are no left luggage facilities on site. We also ask visitors to arrive in plenty of time in order for any potential security checks to take place.
Maximum bag size allowed in the building is 38cm x 30cm, includes suitcases.
Exceptions to the rule:
Baby buggies and oversized bags containing necessary medical equipment, or for use in nursing and babycare, will be permitted, subject to the owners agreeing that these items will be searched.
For larger bags, we recommend using Yorbag.
Yorbag left luggage service is located on High Petergate, near to York Minster, and costs from £3. Take your pre-booked ticket for JORVIK Viking Centre to get 20% off the price. You can find out more on the Yorbag website.
Visitors can also download a guide to JORVIK’s galleries when they arrive at the Centre, in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Norwegian, Japanese, Polish, Danish or Arabic.
