We are pleased to open our 2017 summer placement programme offering involvement in the new JORVIK Viking Centre.
Placements will be trained to run two handling collections of artefacts from the excavation, offering visitors a chance to further explore the dig and the discoveries it made.
During your placements you will learn how to offer enhanced access and engagement to this unique collection and the rich archaeology of the site.
The placement is an opportunity to gain experience of how we offer archaeological and collections engagement for our visitors.
Placements are available from 17th July – 3rd September and each placement will run for 10 days spread Monday – Sunday over two weeks.
If you are interested in undertaking a placement please read the role description. If you are happy with the placement role and are available for one of the ‘Welcome Day’ on either 20th June or 20th July please fill in an application form and return this to us by 9th June.
We will contact people once the application period has closed. We will then ask those people we may have a suitable place for to attend an informal interview. Please note interviews can take place via Skype if you are not local to York. After we have met with people we will be able to allocate and confirm the placements.
All placements are asked to attend a Welcome Day to train them in their role and offer them an induction. These will run 10 am – 4pm and are available on either 20th June or 12th July. Placements need only attend one of the dates.
All our placements are open to anyone aged 18 or above. For anyone under 18 years of age we offer work experience via the NYBEP (North Yorkshire Business & Education Partnership) scheme which offers York schools opportunities to get involved in the Trust. Details of this scheme are available in all participating schools and colleges. We apologise that we are now fully booked for the NYBEP placements for 2017.
To give placements a high quality experience, offering them focused support; placements will be offered through a set application period. We regret we are unable to accept applications outside of this period.
We will be hosting further placements in the autumn and details of these will be available soon.
Our Placement Programme
will offer involvement from May to October 2017.
