Magic Weekend at Barley Hall
As part of the city-wide Magic Weekend 2026, visitors are invited to discover the magical mysteries of medieval life through hands-on activities and fascinating finds!
In the Great Hall, aspiring witches and wizards can create their own Magical Familiar from clay, crafting creatures inspired by the animals once believed to guide and protect their companions.
Visitors can also uncover the real history of magic and superstition with a special display exploring medieval witchcraft beliefs. See an authentic witch bottle on display (a rare object once believed to ward off evil spirits), alongside an X-ray revealing the hidden pins sealed inside…
Join us for a spellbinding experience blending history, folklore and family-friendly creativity in one of York’s most atmospheric medieval settings.
This is free with admission to Barley Hall
This event is organised by and in collaboration with Potions Cauldron York.
