Sarah Maltby from JORVIK Viking Centre appears in Leaders Council podcast alongside Lord Blunkett

The Leaders Council of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is currently in the process of talking to leadership figures from across the nation in an attempt to understand this universal trait and what it means in Britain and Northern Ireland today.

Sarah Maltby, director of attractions for the JORVIK Group, which includes JORVIK Viking Centre, was invited onto an episode of the podcast, which also included an interview with Lord Blunkett. Host Scott Challinor asked both guests a series of questions about leadership and the role it has played in their careers to date.

JORVIK Group director

“When JORVIK first opened in 1984, it was a ground-breaking attraction, and we have worked hard over the years to keep not only the attraction up-dated with the latest technology, but also remaining at the forefront of engagement and education with our audiences, whether that be through the attractions themselves, our mobile exhibitions which are currently on display in museums all over Europe, or indeed our use of technology to deliver learning and visitor experiences,” says Sarah. “Our first totally online festival, That JORVIK Viking Thing in February reached an audience of 3.2 million in over 60 countries across the world, demonstrating that even during a global lockdown, the way in which we share our stories has enduring appeal – using innovation to push the boundaries way beyond the walls of our attractions.”

Scott Challinor commented, “Hosting a show like this, where you speak to genuine leaders who have been there and done it, either on a national stage or within a crucial industry sector, is an absolute honour.”

Lord Blunkett, chairman of The Leaders Council of Great Britain and Northern Ireland said, ‘I think the most informative element of each episode is the first part, where Scott Challinor is able to sit down with someone who really gets how their industry works and knows how to make their organisation tick. Someone who’s there day in day out working hard and inspiring others. That’s what leadership is all about.’
