Support Us

The coronavirus crisis is causing unpredictable and significant concerns for York Archaeological Trust, the educational charity that runs JORVIK Viking Centre and our sister attractions in York. Our staff and visitors’ safety is our top priority. We have reacted to this challenge by developing a brand-new virtual engagement programme – ‘Virtual Vikings’, that will deliver similar on-line experiences to school classes, which we want to launch during the autumn term.

To help us create this valuable new offer for school children across the UK who cannot now visit our attractions, we need to purchase the technical equipment and learning resources to deliver it. We would be hugely grateful for your support helping us raise £120,000 to cover the costs of developing and running this exciting and beneficial new project.

Gift Aid

If you are a UK taxpayer, you can help us further by turning your donation into a Gift Aid donation at no extra cost to you, which allows us to claim an extra 25p for every £1 you spend from the Government.

Your payment will be treated as an admission donation that entitles you and your family group to 12 months free admission from the date of payment.

Please note this only applies to individual and family tickets, not larger groups.

Social distancing and safety

We have new social distancing and safety policies to make sure visits are safe and enjoyable for all our visitors and staff, including reducing the number of people in the attraction, ensuring social distancing and extra hygiene precautions. You can read more about these new policies here.

Currently you must pre-book your tickets to JORVIK to help us achieve social distancing. Read more here about our safety and social distancing policies during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Usually we charge a £2 pre-booking fee to guarantee fast-track entry, but this fee is currently waived. The Covid-19 crisis has significantly impacted our income and our work as an educational charity. We would be very grateful if you were able to replace the online booking fee with a donation – you will see options for £1, £2 and £5 donations when you book your tickets online. Many thanks for your support.

Bags & suitcases

At JORVIK Viking Centre we are fully aware of our responsibilities as a visitor attraction. In line with advice from our security advisors, additional security measures are in place across our building. We kindly ask that patrons refrain from bringing any large bags or suitcases to the venue as there are no left luggage facilities on site. We also ask visitors to arrive in plenty of time in order for any potential security checks to take place.

Maximum bag size allowed in the building is 38cm x 30cm, includes suitcases.

Exceptions to the rule:

Baby buggies and oversized bags containing necessary medical equipment, or for use in nursing and babycare, will be permitted, subject to the owners agreeing that these items will be searched.

For larger bags, we recommend using Yorbag.

Yorbag left luggage service is located on High Petergate, near to York Minster, and costs from £3. Take your pre-booked ticket for JORVIK Viking Centre to get 20% off the price. You can find out more on the Yorbag website.
