Be a part of Europe’s largest Viking Festival

The JORVIK Viking Festival is an annual city-wide celebration of York’s rich viking heritage. Every year we welcome thousands of visitors to a program of events including expert talks, re-enactments, family events, crafting, trader fairs and more. From well-loved events like the Best Beard Competition to the spectacular Viking march, there’s something for everyone.

Festival Event Volunteers help us to provide a warm welcome for visitors in a number of ways. You might find yourself directing visitors to events around York and to our JORVIK Group attractions, or providing support to our family events, kids crafting or ever-popular Viking Poo Day! Volunteers also help us conduct surveys and evaluation so we can continue to make the JORVIK Viking Festival a great experience for all our visitors.

Who Can Join?

We welcome expressions of interest to join the team from anyone with enthusiasm for Viking history or for heritage events. No previous knowledge of the Viking Festival is needed, as full training will be provided. Volunteers will need to enjoy talking to a wide range of people and be able to offer a bright, friendly welcome to all.

How Do I Apply?

We welcome new volunteer involvement via set intake periods each year. These offer an opportunity to join the team in the company of other new volunteers as well as lots of training and support along the way. Our intake for Festival Events volunteers runs from 5th December 2022 to 5th January 2023.  To apply within these dates click here.
