Residents ‘escape’ from JORVIK Viking Centre in new interactive app

The world-famous residents of JORVIK Viking Centre – from the huntsman with his canine to the poor gentleman who has been straining on the latrine for the last 35 years – are set to escape the confines of the recreated Viking-age street this half term (20 – 27 February 2019)!  York-based New Moon Studios has created an augmented reality app that brings the characters to life at different venues around the city!

Here come the girls – and they are armed to the teeth!  Straight from the Viking sagas, visitors to York this February will see Norse warrior women fighting alongside – and occasionally leading – male warriors, as the JORVIK Viking Festival explores the untold stories of women in the Viking age.

The importance of the mystical Viking role of ‘seer’ is being retold at JORVIK Viking Centre with the arrival of a series of artefacts discovered in the Isle of Man and Orkney to coincide with this year’s theme for JORVIK Viking Festival – the untold story of women in the Viking age.
